After a silence of some days, owing to interruption of cable communication, we have news from Europe, but only of a Tcry meagre character. The latest item is to the effect that public feeling in England has set in very strongly in favor of a neutral policy, which being in accordance with the utterance of Ministers in the Queen's speech has had a tranquilising effect. On the other hand the feeling of the Mahomedan population in Constantinople is represented as being irritated against; England. So long as this feeling of irritation is confined to splenetic attacks in the Turkish papers, it will do little harm. The danger to be apprehended is that it will find a rent; in some fanatic attack upon British subjects in Turkey. The war news is brief, and so far unimportant in that it brings only a confirmation of what had been expected, namely, that after the fall of Kars, Erzeroum would soon be invested, which has happened. The negotiations for an armistice hare not progressed very far, and that there is yet a chance of outside interference being required is indicated in the detention of outward and homeward bound British troops at Malta. Fuller details of news may shortly be expected.
