Mr Robertson, at Mudgee, yesternight, said he was opposed to the remission of the interest on the free ■electors* balances, and also to the stop* page of action on the sales. He considered the squatters' rent should be increased. Sunday. An official telegram, dated London, Friday, says that meetings throughout the country for many days urged a neutrality policy on the Government. The Queen's speech being in conformity with such generally manifested opinion has had a rery tranquilising effect. Mkieoubne, January 19. Mr Slator, Commissioner of Customs, at Ararat, yesternight, directed the issue from the payment of members' to the question of whether sixteen of the Council should rule. January 17. Sir Charles McMahon has resigned his seat for West Melbourne in favour of Mr Francis, whose election is certain. The Governor (Sir G. Bowen) has been presented an address at Hamilton, con* I taining expressions of indignation at the illegal acts of Ministers. His reply defended his assent to the dismissals. He said he was bound to follow the advice of Ministers on local matters, outside the prerogatives of the Crown or Imperial interests. The Government intend to carry on the County Courts by appointment of officials without salaries.
