Miss Ada Ward took her benefit at the Theatre Royal last night. There was a good house. After the performance she delivered a farewell speech, during which she made an attack on a well-known member of the Press, and said she was told before she came here she would be mercilessly cut up unless she cringed to or paid his particular reporter. She referred to matters connected with the management of the theatre, asserting that she had been brought under falsepretcnces. She concluded by saying she was going to stay down here. It is reported that she is about to be married to a gentleman in the Christchurch railway department.
