ALBURNIA.

i Crashing for this mine was returned flit pth'e Herald battery last evening with 10 head of stampers, and it is the present intention of the manager to go on crushing to the end of the month. There is a considerable quantity of good stuff on band from the intermediate level and in addition to the general stuff the manager-has been successful in,obtaining already since the last crushing' some 12cwt of picked stone - and specimens, which will materially assist the total for the month when crushed. At the mine all operations are in a forward stab. Driving of the Sons of Freedom tunnel has been suspended as the manager has the men employed sinking a winze from the 150. feet level to connect with the tunnel level for ventilation.and other purposes. In Carpenter's section the specimen leader 'is being worked with rather encouraging prospects, as gold is frequently discernable in the stone broken out.. There is no change of any importance fo note in the workings on the Whau level, which continue to look about the same. In the intermediate level some 30ft below the Whau level both the Sons of Freedom reef and the specimen leader are being worked advantageously and with profit; The works at present are chiefly in the itopei. In the low level (60ft below the floor of the Whau level) driving is proceeding, but nothing of any importance has transpired tnere, and the reefs worked arc not so rich as in the intermediate level. I may mention that during the extension of the Sons of Freedom tunnel several small lodes and leaders were in- j tersected, but nose holding out sufficient inducement to work at present. Eventually this work will' be the main outlet for the quartz coming from the upper levels of the mine. At present none of the company's tribute parties are crushing, but one or two expect to have their.lots down before the end of the week.
