QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
Cartine to the battery was started this morning, there being about 100 tons of stuff in iho hoppers at the mine. The two parties of contractors are working away as usual, but nothing of any con* sequence has transpired sirjee my last report. The water is slowly reducing in the chamber, there now not being more than Bix feet on the flat-sheet. As yet, however, it will be useless to start haling, as the whole of the surrounding country requires to be drained also, and as the Piako inland drive proceeds, the means of drainage are increased. f hero is likely to be considerable competition for the letting ou tribute of several of the upper blocks, which, in the old days, made this mine so famous.
