Water Supply Committee.
The usual monthly meeting of this body was held at the Borough Council Cham* hers at 7.30 o'clock last evening. There were present—His Worship.the Mayor (in the Chair), Messrs McGowan, Price Bead 1 and Hume. ~ HEW MEMBEB. * The Mayor read.his appointment as a member of the Water Supply Committee. MINUTES. The minutes .of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, as also were the minutes of the special meeting. THE NEW ACT. The Secretary laid before the committee the amended Water Supply Act, which , was read by the Chairman. - •- ■ ALTEBATION. The Secretary, reported that Mr Hogg wished to have'his name paced in the agreement re water supply of Thamea Brewery instead *ofrthat;of Brown and Campbell & Co. ' " c This was agreed to. ■:*- -.-. ; THE NEW PIPES. ; A letter was read from Messrs T. & S. Morrin, offering to supply the committee with 52 tons of iron 9-inch pipes at the price agreed upon; Letter received. TABARU SCHOOL. , , \ • A letter was read from Mr, J. j. O'Brien asking leave,to connect a halfinch pipe with tho Moanatairi main for tho use of the Tararu School. This was agreed to. DAMAGED IBON PJDATES. A letter was read from Mr A. Aitken, Government Engineer, asking payment for the damaged iron plates supplied to the Committee some time ago. / .' ; It was resolved that Mr Aitken be informed that the Committee would, consider the matter at their earliest convenience. - ' FINANCE. .''.':, The Secretary reported that the overdraft at the bank at date amounted to £436 10s. Accounts amounting to £86 6s 5d were passed for payment. ■ NEW MEMBERS. The Secretary drew tho attention of the Committee to the fact that it was necessary for local bodies to elect members on the Committee during the present month. •
The Chairman said he did not quite understand what were the functions of the Committee appointed at last meeting; but he could clearly see that unless sonic alteration was made in their system of carrying on business, total bankruptcy was before them. If he was Chairman for the next half year he would recommend them to exercise the strictest economy, or they would not be able to carry on at all. ■ '
Mr McGowan said that when they had appointed the Committee they had no idea of goiqg in for a large expenditure, but it was more with the idea of getting information at a cheap rate, which the report would gire. He beliered that the Water Supply should be vested in the Borough, and he thought that it would be yet. After some further discussion the meeting adjourned.. >:
