QUEEN OF THE MAY.
The directors having come to the decision to start operations in the mine and make an attempt to meet the judgment obtained against them for drainage contributions, as stated in these columns some days ago, Mr C. Wilson, the mine manager, got up steam in the engine yesterday, and a start has been made at understoping at No. G level. For some reason or another the Queen of Beauty authorities refused to give them (the Queen of the May) admission through their workings, and thu3 the starting of the engine will entail more expense than if they had been permitted to get at their workings by the shaft of an adjoining mine. At present it is desirable to get out as much gold in as short a timo as possible, and aa the late manager put down ono or two prospecting winzes on choice portions of the line of reef with fair results, it is likely that those will be the scone of the commencement of operations. At the time of my visit this morning no stuff had been wound.
