QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
In company with the manager I paid a visit to the mine to-day, and on reaching tke No. 5 level I found that in several places the stope from the No. 6 has reached the floor of the No. 5 level. la the stopes towards the City of London there is a nice-looking little leader, which occasionally shows gold, and during.the last few days some good ore has been obtained from it. The lode is maintaining its well-defined appearance, and has been crushing well of late. The manager states that it is his belief that there is over two months' work yet in this level, and it will now be necessary to start sinking the shaft. This will be done as soon as the Fiako shaft is down a sufficient distance to carry away the water, for it must be remembered that the low level is. only 30 feet above the Piako No. 7 level. The crosscut towards the Piaka :greatly assists in keeping the level-tolerably free from water.
