ALBURNIA.

Crushing was started last night at the Herald battery for this mine with 10 head of stampers, but the manager expects to be able to get' 5 head more shortly. The show on the plates is splendid, and already the crushing may be confidently stated to be shaping for 4 or 5 ounces to the ton. The manager informs me that

he has now about 60 tons on hand and 12cwt of specimens. The specimens will bo crushed tomorrow with the single stamper at the Moanntairi mill, and taking it all in all; the return should not be far behind 800 or 1000 ounces. To-day there were exhibited on.the Bank of New Zealand counter three splendid stones from the Whau level, and must have been worth 3 or 4ozs to the pound. These specimeus attracted a good deal of attention through the day, and were pronounced by many to be almost equal to the Moanatairi ones. The leader is looking quite as well as ever, and there is a first-cla&s show in the Whau level. ' Downie and party finished their crushing of 14 loads to-day for the yield of 36czs 12dwts gold. A specimen crushing some time a^o, which produced 1330zs odd, was taken from the general siuff composing the crushing completed today.
