HOBART PASHA'S RECORD.
The San Francisco Chronicle givei the following regarding Hobart Pasha:— Admiral Hobart Pasha combines', the functions of clief naval administrator of the Turkish Empire with the duties of aval Commander-m-Chief, also holds the rank of. Captain on the retired list of the British navy. He is the third son of the Honorable and Reverend Earl of Buckinghamshire, a worthy but impecunious noble* man and clergyman of the Church of England. Hobart served through the various grades of the British navy, up to the rank of Captain, with fair credit. In 1863 he obtained leave of absence, and, prompted by bis love of gain and his hatred of the " Yankees," he disgraced and imperilled his rank in the British nary by engaging in blockade-vanning under a false name. As Captain Harvey he made several successful voyages between Bermuda and Wilmington, N. 0., in command of the steamer Don, and had the good luck to leave her on the voyage preceding her capture by our navy. He obtained his present lucrative position through the in> iiuence of his elder brother, the late Lord Hobart, who was for sereral years Manager of the Ottoman Bank at Constantinople and in high favor with the Turkish officials, as he was one of their most active and trusted agents in negotiating loans with the capitalist! of Western Europe. The Admiral's pay and emoluments are said to be worth £IO,OCD sterling per annum. In England he is considered to be a man of moderate ability in his profession, wiih a keen eye to its profits. Whatever good or evil fortune may be in store for the Turkish fleet it is likely that Hobart Pasha will manage to fall on his feet. However that may be, there is nothing in his antecedent career to justify the good wishes of Americans in his favor.
