THE WEEK.
The incidents of the week in the mining world have not been of a character to call for any lengthened comment in this column, having been mostly of a progressive character. The plan of working decided upon by the directors of the Moanatairi company have been fairly started, ard nothing very startling can be looked for in th's mine for son?e time. Probably the yields will be kept up to a figure which will prevent the stock from going down much—in fact they have maintained a good price through the week, the determination not to take out the rich block aot having affected the price of the stock so much as the transactions therein. It is understood that tenders will be called for at once for continuing the north aod south drives from the low level of the Pumping Association shaft, but whether they will be accepted until the question of drainage contributions is settled is doubtful. The^ultimatura of the ( ounty Council is understood to be decisive, and on its acceptance by the associated companies much depends. The Alburnia commence crushing shortly,, and the general stuff' and rich specimens ought to produce another dividend paying yield. The reported rich find at Owharra has not been confirmed, and the report is received with a certain amount of suspicion. If it proves to be what it was represented, something like a revival in mining in that district might be looked for. The Waitekauri reports are encouraging, but the result of the company's crushing for the month is a matte? of speculation, nothing definite as to the quantity of amalgam in hand being known. The extension of the Waiot'ihi road has progressed so far that communication with Punga Flat is now rendered easy, and some account of the good derivable from the work should soon be known. There is a large area of ground open to prospectors, and as it has been so frequently said that the great drawback to its profitable working was the bad state of the road, now that this drawback has been removed it may fairly be assumed that the ground will be occupied and worked with profit.
