KURANUI HILL UNITED.
Operations on the two lodes at the 640 feet level of the United-Pumping As* sociation shaft continue, and the appearance of the No, 1 lode, at least, is promising. It is of #ood size, and continues lo have the bjalihy appearance which it had when fi-st cut in the cross-cut. The mineral which prevails in it in the greatest quantity is iron pyrites, arid there is oft^n a lot of prian about the., quartz. The country is of sandstone formation, and though rather broken, up, the manager considers that there is nothing to grumble about in respect to the country, and expects that as soon as it becomes more settled to obtain " something • good.' There' appears to be an impression abroad that this lode is the same as the one in which the first gold in the shaft was obtained, arid which caused some little excitement a month or so ago. This is quite an erroneous impression, however, the lodes being totally different. The No. 2 lode has not such a promising appearance, however, as it often contains a large amount of limestone, and is then of large size. At times, however; it contract? down to about one foot in thickness, and then contains all solid quartz. This lode also contains iron pyrites, but not in such large quantities as the No. 1 does, gold b- -s yet been seen in either of the reefs,
and it is a fair assumption that as far as the drives have been extended there has been none, ns the manager makes a daily test of stuff, from/each lode and has not yet' discovered' 'anything. The company's battery is kept fully employed, and is steadily advancing in public favor. The following parties at present have parcels under process of treatment: —Gavin's Golden Crown tribute, Johns' (Jure tribute, Jenkins' company's tribute,Little'John's Moanatairi tribute, Foster's Alburnia tribute, and Skidmore's Cema claim. Several parties are now waiting for stampers. ~ , -• -
Gilpin and party, tributers working a part of Kelly's section, finished a crushing of 18 tons at the company's battery last night for the satisfactory yield of* 23 ounces sdwts of retorted gold.
Noi'they and party completed their crushing at the company's mill, to-day, for the yield of lOozs lldwts melted gold.
