Accident at the Shortland Wharf.

A. rather serious accident occurred at the Shortland Wharf this morning to a sailor named William Jones, belonging to the ketch Adah, which is at present loading timber at Shortland from the Shortland Saw Mill. It appears that Jones was helping two other men to lift a heavy piece of; baulk timber, when by some means or another the wood slipped from their hands and fell on Jones' foot, smashing the front part of it completely. Mr McVey immediately procured a cab, and the sufferer was conveyed to the Hospital, where he now is. It is not thought that any serious- consequences will ensue.
