HERALD BATTERY.
To-day, in order to give the turbine a fair trial, the water was shut off at the same time from the Kuranui and Moanatairi batteries, and a much higher pressure being obtained the turbine worked splendidly, sending round the stampers "at the rate of knots." It now seems pretty certain that the 10-inch pipe is insufficient to supply the three batteries, and the sooner a larger pipe is laid down or another pipe placed to supplement the supply from the present one is laid down, the better. It must be remembered that it is not an increase of water that is required, but an increase of pressure, for at present there is enough water from the waste pipe to turn a large water-wheel.
