Monday.

The City Council passed a resolution to-day, by 7 to 3, that Mr Climie be appointed' Engineer to carry out the drainage scheme, and Mr Blackett Consulting Engineer. If Mr Blackett is not available, then Mr Napier Bell is to be requested to act. The committee of the whole Council are to meet Mr Climie and discuss the te:ms of the motion re the dismissal of officials. It will be considered at a special meeting on Monday next.

Mr Travers, on behalf ?of the citizens, presented an address and a purse of sovereigns to Michael Monahan, late senior sergeant in the police force. There was a large attendance of merchants and other leading citizens at the presentation.
