Thames County Council.

An adjourned meeting of the County Council was held at the Chambers, Pollen street, this morning at 11 o'clock. Present —Cr. Brodie, Chairman; Crs. Bagnail, Coutts, Spencer, and Thorp. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The estimate of receipts and expenditure for the current year was considered and approved. : BATE* . It was decided, in accordance with the Bating Act, to give notice of the Council's intention to strike a rate of one shilling in the pound from the Ist April last, and also to give notice of the dates on which such rate will be payable, and when the rate book is to be open for the inspection of ratepayers. SPECIAL MEETING. It was resolved to call a special meeting on the 27th instant, at 2.30 p.m., for the purpose of striking the i ate. ■.: KAUAEBANGA COXTNTEB PETITION. Cr Bagnall drew attention to the counter petition of the Kauaeranga ratepayers against joining the County. He said the petition and its declarations were incorrect, for he believed evidence would be forthcoming to show that some of the signatures were not those of ratepayers, while others had been obtained to another petition and afterwards attached to this counter petition. APPOINTMENT OF COMMISSIONEB. Captain Fraser, R.M., was appointed a Commissioner, under the 38th section of the Counties Act, to conduct enquiries into the matter of counter petitions, as provided for by the 16th, 17th and 18th sections of the Counties Ant. This was all the business, and the Court adjourned.
