ALBURNIA.

, Eetorting of the blanketings, &c., took place at the Moanalairi mill for this mine to-day, and the yield was 32 ounces of retorted gold. This, with the parqel previously lodged, was melted in the Bank of New Zealand- and .reduced to 9050zs lldwls meKed gold. This is the total result of the treatment of 80 tons of general staff and about half a ton of ;specimens,.and though it is not quite up to expectations, yet it is a first-class yield, and has enabled the. directors to declare a dividend of 5s .per > share. The mine continues to look first-class. Stoping operations are proceeding on the block on the specimen leader, between Foster's intermediate and battery levels. Last night 2001bs of good picked stone was, selected after breaking down, leaving a good show on the face. This blo:-k is now nearly worked out, .but there is another good block between Foster's lower and the intermediate' below this one, which, it is expected, will prove equally as rich. This new block will have 35 feet of good backs, and will be about 4.0 feet long. Thriving through the slide is being proceeded with, and though the face is on the other side of the slide, the leader has not yet been cut, there yet being a small belt of barren ground to extend the driv? through. Almost peculiar thing has happened in the battery level in the drive south on the, course of the main slide, inasmuch as the slide has cbanged into a gold-bearing leader. All traces, of the slide hare not yet disappeared, however, as there is a. small, mullocky band alongside the leader. The drive on the slide was put in for. the purpose of picking up the'supposed Sons of Freedom reef, or as it is more generally known as the leader beyond the slide, and within the last week or ; two. tbere have been indications of the vicinity of a body of stone. It is probable that, this change in the slide is caused by some, offshoot, or branch of the reef, coming :n contact with the slide, and temporarily almost cutting it off. Be that as it ma?,'. there is not the slightest doubt that this is a leader, and an auriferous one.too, as a pound or two of specimens were taken from it today. Further operations may let-A to t'iie elucidation of this mystery.

'J'lie following is a copy of the telegram sent to the directors Hi Auckland io-da;/: —" Moiled gold 905 ounces. Slide in souUi drive, battery level, changed into leader. 21bs of good specimens taken OUt. —S. GuißliXi'K." .

Skeen and party two at present crushing their general stuff, and McLean and party are sending a parcel down, whilst two or three other lots arc making ready. . .
