WAIOTAHI.
The winze sinking on the No. 5 reef to connect the low level with the level above is now nearly down far enough to meet the rise from the bottom level. "In .order to put up the rise the manager, Mr Smith, was obliged to drive a considerable distance along the course of the lode before
he started to rise. He expects to be able to connect this week. When this work is completed it will not only afford facilities for stoping, filling in, etc., but it will also'ventilate the bottom level, the air of which is often very bad; As all. the hands in the mine are employed.at this work the present supply of quartz is rather limited, but as soon as it is finished operations will be resumed on the Nos.*3 and 4 lodes. The crushing has been shaping well of late, so that a fair return may be expected from the retorting for the month, which the manager intends shall .take place to-morrow."
