In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, Robertson, a half-caste, was charged with the abduction of a girl. In her evidence, she. said she left her father's house on her own account, arid the prisoner knew nothing of it till she met him at Oamaru accidentally. He advised her to return home, but she refused, as her father wanted her to marry, a white man. She and the prisoner had not lived as mar^ and wife. 'Prisoner said he was willing to marry the girl if her father consented. The Bench said there was no case, and ordered the girl to be. sent home. The accused was remanded to Dunedin.
