The Government, acting upon the advico of Sir Win. Jervois, telegraphed home for

a supply of Martini-Henry rifles, to come

out by the mail. The country districts are taking up the Volunteer movement. At the Town Fa!', resolutions strongly in favor of placing the colony in a posi-'*-j lion to defend itself, and in favour of tho formation of a Volunteer force, weve enthusiastically carried. A writ cf injunction has been grank i l. on behalf of Air W. E. Gladstone, Lo restrain Messrs Frearson Brothers fron infringing the plaintiff's copyright to f pamphlet on Bulgarian horrors. The Government have telegraphed to the War Office for the assistance of an

officer o! the lloyal Engineers or Artillery to command the forces here.

Seven shillings and elevenpence has been offered and refused for wheat.

The Exhibition Commissioners will aslc the Government for £2500 to secure the colony being represented at: the Paris Exhibition., Mbiboitbne, May 11. The Premier has arranged with the Agent-Genera' for the transmission of a weekly message on the position of affairs in Europe. This is in conjunction with the Agents-*?eneralofother colonies, who mostly acquiesced. The message will be despatched in the first.instancei to Adelaide, and then immediately to .the other colonies. . .. The ship Erato, on the passage, fell in with a derelict vessel.
