CURE.

In company with Mr Crawford I paid a visit to this mine this morning, and clambering up a pass between the Golden Crown level at the Caledonian No. 1 level, I found that all the working staff | of the mine were employed in sinking the winze on the No. 5 reef and rising to meet the winze. The intervening ground can be knocked through, and the manager judges that the distance to be risen and sunk is about 15 feet, and if that is the case, the works ought to meet this wvfek. The lode in the winze has a very pronl* ing appearance, and the manager is -well satisfied with it. The width of the reef averages one foot, but the size varies a great deal. The quartz is heavy and dark, and carries a large amount of mineral, both in the winze and in the rise. There are 80 feet of good backs between the two levels, and as the distance to the Manukau boundary is about 70 feet, there will be a large amount of stuff to take out if it turns out that it will be worth doing so. As soon as he has holed through, the manager intends to commence stoping operations on the reef, and very probably crushing will be postponed until a trial parcel is broken out from it. The driving on the No. 4, and sinking the winze on the No. 6, has been suspended until the winze on the No. 5 is completed.
