MOANATAIRI.
Since the breaking down which took place on Monday morning no more quartz has been broken, but the stripping of the lode is proceeding with all speed, and at present there is about 3 or 4 feet stripped, the winze now being down about 18. feet. The manager expects to be able to break to-night or to-morrow morning. The face of the reef where last broken bas a very pomi-ing appearance of a kind similar to t)i?,t seen in the run- when it was first cub, mineral being risible, in considerable quantities while gold is showing pretty freely along the whole of the reef visible in the winze. In the part of the slopes on the No. 9 in which it was revolted on Monday that some pounds of specimens had been obtained several pounds of good prcked stone was obtained. Gold is visible in the rcof, and the reef is looking well The driving west on the No. 9 lode, which had been suspended for several days has been resumed with fair prospects. In the drive on the cross reef towards its junction with Heldt's, some colors of gold are to be seen and the lode is evidently improving and the drive on Heldt's reef is showing a littie gold. In the north-west cross drive on the All Nations leader, the aspect of affairs has somewhat improved since Monday when as reported, the reef had "jumped,", inasmuch as .i there is an improvement in the south-east drive on ft gold bearing section of the lode. It is to be hoped that it will not be long before the lode is again' picked up. The shaft is now down about 67 feet, and as the level is to be opened out at 7O,feet with a 10 feet well-hole, perhaps next week will see the commencement of the extension of the level. At the battery the. the company are employing,3o head, and the tributers of the company the other 10 head. As there are several of the company's tribute parties waiting to crush there will be no room for any other mines for a week or so. [Since, the above was written I learn that two or three cwfc of stone showing gold freely was broken down in the winze. The%following is a copy of the telegram sent to the office of the company this morning :—" Have broken sufficient stuff new winze to keep stamper going. Gold still showing freely. Robt. Comeb."]
