MOANATAIRI.

: Yesterday, afternoon *at about four o'clock there was a report flying about the Corner that, something good had been struck in Heldt's or some other lode in that ricinity. The rumor was rery hazy, but it gave the shares an upward tendency. On inquiring at the "mine of Mr Comer he informed me that the gold was not in Heldt's lode* but on the other side of the shaft in the All Nations, in which, as was stated in yesterday's issue, gold was to be seen yesterday morning. I paid a visit to the low level workings this morn* ins; in company with the manager, and on going into the drive in the All.Nations leader found that the manager was, besides carrying .on the drive in the main, lode, making a drive on a small branch, from which the gold was taken yesterday afternoon. A little gold was discernible in the face of this drive, and the lode was looking very well. In the drive on the i main reef I was told some gold had been j seen last night. The drive on tte | branch is trending away from the course of the Ro: 9, but if-the main lode continues its present course the No. 9 should be cut in a day or two. The stopes in the All Nations leader are now 70 feet in length,, and payable crushing dirt is being, taken out almost along the whole course. I then took a look at the stopes on Wallis' leader, which are now of considerable length. Some gold was seen in two different places _ near the western end of the stopes, which is now just along the new winze on the No. 9 reef. The leader is lying very flat all along the stopes, and as the workings are not much wicbr than the reef they have a rather peculiar appearance. Sinking along ihe side of the No. 9 reef is proceeding in the new winze, but no more quartz has been broken at all. The lode appears to have slightly increased in size, and as there appears to be a good deal of doubt about its size in the winze I may state that if is -two feet six inches across- The extension of the drive west on the same lode will be started

in a day or two. Yesterdajaf&rnoonthe winze sunk on the foot-walliection of the No. 9 reef to connect the tunel and lower levels broke through into the ; 8 c from the eastern stopes made to meet it Tue ventilation of the whole of the sto, es on the reef is now first class, and th powder smoke is carried away ye? goon after the shot is fired. The quartz taken from the winze is all gooGcrushing dirt and should crush well. The drive on the cross-leader, which is <riVen towards the junction of that leader with Heldt's reef is now nearly complied, there b°ing yet about 25 feet to dive, which will probably occupy another we»k. The sinking of the shaft is. proceeding, but tlere is nothing fre3h to report n connection with the leader reported as cat yesterday. The depth yet to be sunk is 24 feet (including the well hole) and this will take another three weeks to put down.
