Bazaar in aid of the Baptist Ministers Residence Fund.
The bazaar at the Academy of Music was opened again oh Saturday evening, was again well attended, there being a very fair attendance of buyers. The special attractions were the exhibition of the magic lantern, kindly lent by Mr Newton, a service of song " The Voyage of Life," and the exhibition of a knitting machine. The lantern was exhibited by Mr Grigg, and its exhibition drew a large audience, chiefly of little ones to the " lecture room," i.e., the stage with the curtain down. The pictures were mostly of a comic character and created a good deal of amusement. The service of song was rendered by the choir, and was listened to attentively throughout. The knitting machine is a wonderful piece of mechanism, and is one of the first of this kind of Yankee " notions " that has reached the Thames. It is said that it will knit a pair of socks inside of two hours. The bazaar was to refopen this afternoon at four o'clock, the price of admission being reduced, and this evening the remainder of the goods j will be auctioned off. ' The magic lantern will be again exhibited. Up to Saturday j night the total proceeds of .the bazaar were about £100, and considering that no "gambling" has been allowed, it must be conceded that our Baptist friends have not done badly upon the whole.
