Our Mining Reporter.

MOANATAIBL . . The mine baa now assumed a more promising appearance than it has for some days past. The winze on the No. 9 reef ii down about 14 feet, and during the sinking of the last two or three feet it has been rnmistakeably apparent that the reef is gradually making more mineral as it goes down. Yesterday a good large^^ splat of gold was to be seen .in the very bottom, and a nice parcel of specimens was obtained, and this morning. another 15 or 2Olbs was taken from the same place, the majority of the.stones showing gold freely. The reef is also much improved in its general appearance, so much so iv fact as to warrant the belief that a few more feet sinking will disclose something good. Up iv the stopes the No. 9 is also showing improvement, there being a large qurntity of mineral shewing across the whole face, and a.color or two may occasionally be seen. In the eastern drive at a point sixty or seventy feet'from the clay band the reef has been stopped by a clay scam. Driving is being con* tinued, however, and the manager expects shortly to pick it up again as the drive proceeds eastward. Tho cross-cut to connect with Heldt's lode is .showing gold in the small leaders recently cut in it. Taming to the other side of the en* gine shaft the only change is that the All Nations loader has altered its course a little, which will necessitate a slight' alteration in the course of the drive. The sinking of the shaft is proceeding, and it is now down nearly 50 feet. The engine is only winding one shift while sinking goes on in the other two. Crashing is going ahead with 30 head of stamps, and the retorting, which takes place on Saturday, will be a fair one, considering the stoppage and the grade of stuff put through. Tho following is a copy of the telegram despatched by the manager this morning to the office at Auckland:— "10 a.m.—A few pounds of specimens from the new winze and the reef looking much better. More mineral now show* ing.—KOBBBT COMEB."
