Thames Borough Council.
Tlie ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers Jast night. Present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Councillors Ehrenfried, Gibbons, Kilgour, Renshaw, Head, and Rowe. ■ MIHTJTES. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. COUNCILLOR ABSENT. Cr Butt was excused attendance on the plea of ill-health. COBEESPONDENCE. Correspondence sent since last meeting was read.. ■: A letter was read regarding the stagnant water in the water tableopposite Mr Thomas Spencer's shop, in Pollen street. It was decided on the motion of Cr Renshaw, seconded by Cr Bead, that the application be dealt with in the manner laid down with regard to similar cases in other localities. ' • A letter.was read from the-Colonial Secretary's Joffice, acknowlodgi^ihe receipt of Bye-law regarding jMughter houses, <fee. TBSDBB ACCEPTED, 1 The Town Clerk reported that the tender of J. Macandrew, for putting down a V bottom to the culvert in Burke street for the sum of £49 had been accepted and was in progress. . BETUBNING OFFICBB. : \' •" T The Town Clerk asked the Council to appoint a returning officer under the Local Elections Act, 1876, as there would be an election of auditors in June, and sufficient time would not be allowed if the matter were deferred till next meeting. The Town Clerk read a clause of the Act bearing on the matter. It was proposed that Mr"J.-.E. Macdonald be appointed Returning Officer for the Borough of Thpiies, and carried. FINANCIAL. The accounts for the fortnight were read over and passed. ' . ■ J . HAP 07 BOBOTTGH. The Town Clerk said Mr Walker had requested him to bring under the notice of the Council a map which he had prepared of the Kauaeranga Highway .District, in case the Borough should, require one of the Borough. - . - Cr Ehrenfried thought it would be desirable to have a map of the Borough. It was agreed that the matter should be left over for consideration at next meeting. The: Town Clerk read several clauses of the Act setting forLh the features to be included in the maj: s rendered necessary under the Municipal Corporations Act. EEVISING THE BUBGESB BOLL. The CouncU then resolved itself into a Committee or Court for the revision of the. Burgess 8011. A nutuber of rates were paid in the room, and the names which had. appeared in the Defaulters' List were transferred to the Burgess 8011, which was then signed by the Mayor and three Councillors. PBINTING BQLL. The Town Clerk was instructed to get the roll printed by tender. MEDICAL OFFICEB's BEPQM. - The Town Clerk intimated that Dr Paynej-frhtrwas acting as Medical Officer to the Local Board of Health, wished to report that as far as he knew there was not a case of infectious fever existing on the Thames. In answer to the Mayor, the Town Clerk said that this information had been afforded because a rumour had been prevalent during the last few days that some cases of typhus or typhoid fever had occurred. He (Town Clerk) had also been„ informed -that the ramour had reached Auckland. * The Mayor said he had been in Auckland and had heard nothing of it. THE SHABEBBOKEBS' LICENSE FUE. The question of enforcing the license fees from the sharebrokers came up. - Cr Rowe said he was going to propose that the matter be postponed for one month. The Auckland Council were not going to enforce the fee—in fact they found that they could not do so. It was stated that the sharebrokers in Auckland were prepared to. " fight ";ihe question, and it was therefore agreed to postpone the matter to see the resr't of the test case in Auckland. This was. all the business, and the Council adjourned. ■
