QUEEN OF THE MAY.
Today a-fine parcel of picked stone, amounting to something like 1201bs in weight, was obtained on the breaking dowa cf quartz on the foot- wall lode. The stone was of a blue and white jsoJbjr, and at the junction of tlie two*colors a narrow vein of coarse gold could be distinguished, showing more or I«m~through all the pieces. The reef is looking well, and the good colors are to be seen in different parts. Yesterday '% .fettftfot * was let for driving a cross-cut 100 feet ia > length at the bottom ; level. ? Strange as it may seem this is the first work of the kind ever done in this mine, and this is really a very important work, as it will prove the country and will probably uncover some lodes that may be made payable, and if this is done there! will Be no trouble in following them up to the upper levels. At the battery" the'crashing is shaping well, and judging from present appearances the-return will be a very fair one, and the declaration of another dividend does not seem far off.
