Wednesday.
A public meeting, attended by 300 people, has been held to consider the advisability of continuing the fever hospital on the town belt. A resolution was carried affirming the necessity of such hospital, and that steps be taken to get the sanction of Parliament for its continuance in the present position. The Health Officer has informed the City Council that there are many cases of scarlet fever in Dunedin at present. ! This day. ( The Dunedin Jockey Club last night resolved " That the secretary be requested ! tb write to the secretary of the North Otago Turf Club and state that the Committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club have | taken the decision of the stewards into consideration, but before arriving at a decision as to endorsing the resolution, the committee would feel obliged if they could be provided with a copy of the evidence taken; also, the reason why Derritt, the rider of Fishhook, was not; disqualified; and would like to be informed, if any ac- ; tion was taken towards inquiring if any other parties were implicated in the conspiracy." .
