lOlbs, and Nevis, 4 yrs, 9st, also ran. Theodore having run inside a post after starting was disqualified. Banjo received second money—time, 6mins 45secs.
Publicans' Handicap, 100 soys., with a sweep of 2 sors each for second horse; distance, If miles. Fishhook, 4y r«, Bst 12lbsj 1; Tenipleton, 6yrs, 9st Blbs, 2; Guy Fawkesj syrs, 9st 81bs, 3; Punga, (7st 91bi),;and Exile, (6st 41bs), were scratched. Betting, 6t04 on fishhook; even money on Templetou, and 2 to 1 against Guy Fawkes. On entering the straight Guy was beaten, and Templeton drew away a length, but Fishhook came with a rush 2Qoyds from the post and passed the other two and landed the stakes by a length from Guy two lengths behiud Templeton; time, 3ming 19secs.
Hospital Uace, won easily by Sir William.
Flying Handicap of 75sovs.; distance, ¥ one mile. Titania, 3yrs, 6st lOlbs, 1; Punga, 4yrs, Bst, 2 ; Fishhook, 4yrs,9st 31bs, 3; Hob JKoy also. Fishhook was backed to win largely, but Derritt who was riding him appeared to bo pulling the horse, and when he rode into the .saddling paddock the crowd hooted, yelled, and cried "shame, swindle," and at one time it seemed as if the rider would be pulled off his horse. Immediately after the race the stewards held a meeting to consider the case and resolved—" That in consequence of his being distinctly pulled in the Flying Handicap Fishhook be not allowed to run on the Oamaru race course again, And that the secretary bei instructed to transmit this resolution to all Jockey Clubs in the colony, and request them .to endorse the same."
Novel Eace of 50 sots., winner to be sold, and all proceeds to go to the race fund i distance a mile and a-half; weight for age. Steamer, 3 yrs, 1; Mils Elswick, 1 3 yrs, 2; Kathleen, aged, 3. Mala* bar and Merry Monarch also started.
Consolation Handicap, mile and a quarter-T-Punga, 9st, 1; Bob Eoy; 7st lib, 21 Exile; 6sit 41b, 3. Terry, 6st 4Ab, also ran; betting, 2to 1 on Punga, 4to 1 against ißob. Koy, 6 to 1 against the
others.
