The competitive practice between teams from the Shortland' and Grahamstown contingents of the Borough Fire Brigades has at last been arranged for. It has been talked of for a long time', and both teams have been practising for the event, and we have now the opportunity of placing before our readers the conditions arranged between the two Superintendents •:— ■ " >

1. To be held on Saturday, April 7th, 1877, at 2.30 p.m. on ground between ELaraka bridge and Cochrane street. Fibst Keel Pbactice. against time; Reel 'manned by not more than eight men; to be run 200 yards, fix hydrant; run. out 80 feet hose, fix branch j throw water over a rope 10 feet high ; run out second length of 80 feet, fix brasch and throw water as before ; each branch to be 70 feet from hydrant; each reel to carry more than 196 feet of hose, hydrant and branches on reel; £ -inchjiozzle; both lines in same direction and not crossed; toss for choice of first or second start.

Two teams of not more than eight each start back to back ; each takes reel (as in first match) to its first, plug; fix hydrant; run out hose towards starting point, fix branch, throw water over line ten feet high; toss for direction. Superintendents to appoint umpire, starter, time-takers, nnd judge, and to settle all details. The. Brigade securing the highest aggregate of points to be the winner. The prize to be an emblazoned memorial of the event, to be furnished to the successful Brigade.
