The shore end of the second Cook's Straits cable was spliced yesterday. Part of the day was spsnt in'fruitless endeavours to get the bput ashore with the end of the cable, but heavy rollers prevented a landing. This morning, while endeavouring to land the cable, a boat capsized with eleven men, and one man was drowned. The cable is now being secured in the cable-house at LyeJl Bay. .■■■ l ;-.':■ This day. ; The Hinemoa arrived last night from Auckland with the Hon. Dr Pollen. The Wellington Municipal Corporation have floated in London the Corporation Consolidated Loan of two hundred thousand pounds at 102 and six per cent through the Bank of New Zealand.
