Serious Mining Accident.
We regret to learn that a serious accident occurred this morainjf at Forster's tribute section of the Albutnia mine, the victim being a wages man named James Matthews. It appears that Matthews was employed putting in a shot, and was tamping the hole when, probably through some loose powder lying about, the shot went off. His mate,: Clarkin, who was at the mouth of the drive trucking at the time, on returning found the unfortunate man in an insensible .condition, his face and his hands and arms being badly burnt. He procured as sis tance, and had his mate conveyed to the hospital. It was there found that though the injuries were serious, yet the injured man had a fair chance of recovery. It is probable that lie will lose, the sight of his eyes—of one at least. In addition to the injuries to his face he.was badly bruised about the body, and was evidently in great pain. It may be remembered by* some of our readers ; that the same man was injured by powder in the Manakau mine some time ago.
