AN ENGLISH LADY LAWYER.
The Council of University College, London, have awarded the Joseph Hume Scholarship in Juris prudence to a lady who has already taken the first place in all the classes that women are permitted to attend at this institution, and who is now making her way in such active business at the law as is allowed to persons who are not called to the bar. It may be a long time before the Benchers : of the Inns will grant the " call" to women, but if they prove themselves worthy of it, it can only be a question of time.
