Play commenced at 2.30 to-day, Charlwood taking Selby's place. The Wellington fielding was very, good, but nevertheless Charlwood ran up a very good score, making 4 threes. Ulyett made 1 four, 3 three's!''and a two. Greenwood made 2 threes and a number of singles. At six o'clock the stump.s were drawn, there being 160 runs for 8 wickets. Anson made 15 runs and one maiden, out of 20 balls; Charlwood, 25 balls, 14 runs, 1 maiden; Parrington, 1 wide, 28 balls, 20 runs, 2 maidens; Kaye, 100 balls, 1 wide, 34 runs, 2 wickets, 7 maidens; Armitage, 72 balls. 9 maidens, 3 wides, 14 runs, no wickets ; Cross, 180 balls, 20 maidens, 5 wickets, 52 runs. When the stumps were drawn the score was 160 runs for 8 wickets.
In consequence of the inclemency of the weather, the races have been postponed until Friday. The record at the museum shows the rain-fall in Wellington, from Friday, evening last till 8 a.m. to-day day) to have been 6845 inches. The total fall for February, 1.876r was T565 inches, and the average for February during the past 13 years has been 3698 inches. - , ' This day. : It was showery all the morning and play was postponed till 2 p.m. At that hour there was a sharp rain squall; very few spectators on the ground.
