Complimentary Soiree to Mr H.A. Severn.

We would remind our readers that tonight the long and valuable service! which Mr H.A. Severn has rendered to the Thames Mechanics' Institute will be recognised by the presentation to him of an illuminated address at the complimentary soiree which is to take place in the Academy of Music. The address, which is neatly and tastefully executed, is, we believe, the. work .of Mr E. W. Hollis, and is worded as follows: —

"To H. A. Severn, Esq.

" Deae Sib, —- We, the undersigned, President, Vice-Presidents, and Members of the Committee of Management of the Thames Mechanics' Institute, desire to convey to you our expressions of regret at your departure from the district. We shall ever retain a sincere remembrance of the great and g'odd services you have rendered to the Institute as Vice-Presi-dent, and in wishing you farewell we earnestly hope every success and happiness will attend your future life in our Fatherland, and that this address will sometimes remind you of those with whom you have been so long associated. Permit us also to include your amiable lady and family in these expressions of friendship and goodwill.

(The address is signed by the President, Vice-President and members of the Committee.) A very large attendence is anticipated, and the tickets are, we hear, going off rapidly, everyone being apparently anxious to testify by their presence their high appreciation of the valuable services of Mr Severn, rendered not in connection with the Mechanics' Institue only, but given whenever asked, readily and freely whenever he has been called on to augment the funds of any charitable or praiseworthy object.. In losing Mr Severn the Thames loses a moat valuable member of society, and one whose place will be found extremely hard to fill. Tea will be on the tables at seven o'clock, and the committee will officiate as stewards, while the tables will be presided over by ladies. We are requested to mention that children will be admitted at half-price. A dance will wind up the evening. ■
