ANNIVERSARY DAY.

The twenty-ninth of January, the 'anniversary of the Province and Colony, has generally been celebrated here by a united demonstration of school children— that is, occasion has been taken to give the Sunday School children a treat in the shape of a day's outing at Parawai Gardens. The usual programme will be carried out on Monday, we believe, except in regard to St. George's Sunday School, the teachers and children of which will this year spend their day at Tararu. We do not hear of any reason for this change, and we believe it would have been more generally satisfactory had the course followed in previous years been adopted this, that is, hi so far as taking the whole of the schools to one place, but -the managers of St. George's may have good reasons.for departing from the usual routine. However, the children's festival will take place, and it will be sure to attract a large number of adults, as there is some enjoyment to be obtained from the spectacle of a crowd of joyous children at their games. The proprietors of Parawai Gardens have arranged; for some sports, which will prove an additional attraction ; so that "with these amusements at home and the excursions up the river, those who do not go to Auckland will not have to complain of a lack of means of amusement on Anniversary Day, and in the evening they cau enjoy a dance at the Academy of Music.
