Cadet District Firing.
To-day being the day fixed for the Cadet District Prize firing about 25 boys —members of the Engineer and Scottish Cadet corps—assembled at the Maori range, Parawai, to compete. The St. George's Naval Cadets were not allowed to fire, the company having been formed after the Government grant was made. Major Cooper and ' Sergeant - Major Grant acted as scorers, Major Cooper also superintending the 'firing. StaffSergt. Lambert and Sergt. Kemp were the markers. The ranges were, 100, 200 and 300 yards, seven shots at each range—any position. The first prize was carried off by Sergt. Greenville of the Engineers with a score of 56 points. The rest of the competitors did not show to much advantage except Arnold of the Scottish who took the second prize. lie is only a young shot but gives promise of becoming a first-class marksman. The following is a list of the highest scores:— Name Score Prize Sergt. Greenville, TEC ... ... 56 £3 Cadet Arnold, TSO ... ... 41 £2 Lieufc. Philp, TEC ... ..; 37 £110 a Color Sergt.
