GOLDEN CALF

The crushing which has been in progress for some time at Bull's battery, Karaka, for the proprietors of this mine, was completed on Saturday, and the yield obtained, though hardly as good as.was expected, was a fair one, and prove^hat the lode from whence it was takeD^Jhe one lately discovered in the low level) is a payable one. The retorted return amounted to 70ozs gold, and about 80 tons of stuff were crushed. The gold was subsequently melted in the National Bank and reduced to 68ozs sdwts gold.

CALEDONIAN.

The tributers, Heravil and party, finished their crushing to-day, and banked as the result 19ozs 7-dwts melted gold.

CROWN PRINCESS.

Several pounds of very rich specimens were obtained from the specimen leader in the low level on Saturday afternoon. They are nice looking pieces of quartz, and are thickly impregnated with gold. Some of the pieces would go from 2 to 2|ozs to the pound. Winding was started this morning, both quartz and mullock being hauled.

QUEEN OF THE MAY. The crushing foe this mine at Bull's battery is shaping for a good return, though not better than the average yields from the level above. At present 18 head of stampers are employed, but it is probable that more will shortly be set going. There is nothing fresh of any importance to report in the mine.

OLD BESSIE

A piece of ground, formerly part of the Bessie claim has recently been taken up on the Collarbone spur, Karaka. The shareholders have just completed a trial crushing, from which they melted 2ozs 14dwts 12grs melted gold.
