Waio-Karaka Mines.
The following delegates appointed by the Waio-Karaka Goldmining Companies, viz., Messrs T. L. Murray, J. Brown, E. Thomas, and J. McCabe, waited on the Committee of the Thames County Council appointed to consider the memoranda of the Hon. I<\ Wbitaker regarding the
Big Pump, and arrange matters. The Committee consisted of the Chairman, Crs Spencer and Bagnall.
The deputation expressed a desire that some portion of the funds which may in' future be devoted to assisting the Big Pump should, if found necessary, be applied to assisting the mines on the Waio-Karaka flat. They stated as a reason that in the present state of the Waio-Karaka a stoppage of pumping operations appeared imminent, and they thought it advisable for the Council to have power to assist should such contingency arise. The Committee, in response, said that the matter would be referred to the next meeting of the Council, and expressed themselves favorable to tbe views of the deputation.
