REPLY TO "BOANERGES."

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sir, —A letter appeared lately in your columns under the signature of." Boanerges," in which the writer somewhat contemptuously refers to me as "a certain retailer of drugs," &c. As I have consistently refrained from identifying myself with Enoch, I fail to see what right Mr "Boanerges" has to refer to my opinions and belief, either public or private, for they most assuredly do not concern him, and I believe that the retailing of drugs is in itself quite as honorable and legitimate a calling as the- one (whether shoe-black or chimneysweep) to which " Boanerges " happens to belong. I have found Mr Wood a firm and faithful friend, and though I do not happen to coincide with him on every point, I know when the question is between the beliefs and character of Mr Wood and the beliefs (?) and character of the reputed II Boanerges '■' which side I 1 should like to take. Leareme'alone, friend; I never trod on your toes that I am aware of, but if your fingers itch so terribly to find some one to pitch into, come out in your own name like a man, and as such I'll meet you. I enclose my name, sir, in obedience to the rules of the Press, and also £1 towards the expenses of Enoch, which I have no doubt Mr Wood will call for.—l am, &c,
