This day.
A deputation from the Thames County and Borough Councils waited on Mr Whitaker this morning relative to the Big Pump. After a long discussion Mr Whitaker submitted the following conditions: That the following be appropriated for the purpose of maintaining the working of the pump for a period of two years. First, contributions from mines; second, Gold fields .Revenue raised within the Borough; bird, profts arising from the water rates. The revenue from the goldfields generally, if necessary. If the revenue fn>m the Borough is more than sufficient, lhe balance to uo to the Borough. Tbe County members agreed. Mr Howe said the Borough would decidedly object to pledge the whole of its gold revenue, which might be more. Mr Whitaker is t> draft an agreement in terms of the i evolution.
The Hon. G-. McLean and Major Atkinson have arrived, and had an iuterview with Mr Whitaker.
