NELSON.
Thursday.
A committee has been formed to arrange for the accommodation of visitors at the regatta. Telegrams should be sent to the secretary of the Regatta Committee, and the best possible arrangements will bo made. The Auckland aud Thames crews
and boats arrived per Hawea this morning. The West Coast boats are expected at the, end of the week.
An interesting case arising out of a county election was heard before Mr Broad,.K.M., today. Joshua Bird was elected for Motueka riding, Waimea County. Mr White, the defeated candidate, petitioned against his return on the ground that his nominators were not duly qualified electors. Thereupon Mr Bird, aware of the validity of the objection, petitioned that the election might be declared void altogether, principally on the ground that sufficient notice of election had not been given by the [Returning Officer, also that Mr White's nomination was as illegal as hia own. Both petitions were heard, and the election declared void.
