KARAKA CREEK.

In this district, though several of the mines have resumed work after the holidays, the majority of those that are payable still remain idle. Amongst those that have started are the Lord Kelson, Onehunga, and Little Nell. Several of the claims in the district have been doing well during the last two or three months. In the Little Lizzie a3O pound specimen crushing is almost a regular occurrence, and between 20 and 30 ounces is the average of the yields obtained. The Little JNell, across the creek from the Little Lizzie, is, in the hands of its proprietors, fctichbury- and mates, doing very well. Their last crushing yielded between 3 and 4 ounces to the ton. The success of this party has induced other pieces of ground to be taken up, and two of them the Little Lizzie No. 2, and the Forlorn Hope are meeting with pretty fair prospects, in fact the proprietors of the first-named had a good crushing not long ago. Further up the creek, the shareholders of the Victory mine and Halcyon battery* are doing pretty well. In the Onehunga claim (whichis partof the old Onehunga GK M. Co.'s ground) although the owner, Mr Bryant, has not done much yet; the country looks promising, being intersected with back seams, in which, where they cross a lode, gold is generally found. The ,two large batteries —the Una and and Bulls are still silent, but will re-com-mence work in a week or so.
