Waiotahi Creek School.

The Christmas vacation for this school was ushered in by the usual breaking up and entertainment given at the school lastnight. There were about 200 children and some 150 visitors. A report on the school was presented by the teacher Mrs

Skeen, and read, and the prizes given for arithmetic, grammar, reading, general improvement, attendance, good conduct, &c, were distributed by Mrs Denby. The-prizes consisted of books principally, the 'gifts of Messrs. W. Howe, Denby, \ McGowan, Jefferson, Carter, Burra, Gold- ) imith, and others. Each of the children received a bag containing cake, and other refreshments. The, Christmas tree appendages were then drawn for by lottery and afforded prizes for every child present. The evening's entertainment was brought to a close by the usual rotes of thanks to the chairman, the -donoia, rthe, teachers—Mrs Skeen, Miss, Stanton, Miss Hamilton and Miss Pyne— for the interest displayed on the occasion, and concluded by singing the " National Anthem."
