GREAT ENTERPRISE IN RUSSIA.

Eussia is full of progressive enterprise*, but when they will be finished, or even taken in hand, is more than the. mos^ sanguine* of Eussian prophets pan predict. There is first a canal from Cronstadt to St. Petersburg ; then a railway to connect the Black Sea with the Gaspian is spoken of the object being to extend Russian commerce, by means of rail and boat, by way of Bokhara, into China. Eussia does not want for labour; but it is doubtful whether it can find capital sufficient for such gigantic enterprises as are here contemplated. It may. be mentioned that the proposed line would give Eussia the s»le possession of the most handy and direct' route to the Celestial Empire — a circumstance which, it is quite expected at St. Petersburg, will cause not a little dissatisfaction and annoyance both inTurkey and in Persia; and, what goes without saying, in England too. The construction of the now line will be comparatively easy and inexpensive, for there are no difficulties to be overcome at all approaching to those encountered in the distance between Poti and Tiflis. The railway is to be the first constructed out of the proceeds of the new loan, being regarded in Eussia as of the greatest importance in conjunction with the projected Siberian lino. ♦
