AJAX (TAIRUA.)

Mr Thomas Kennan has been appointed to the charge of this mine ; the directors securing his services as mining engineer and surveyor, which from his long practice in Victoria as well as on the Thames warrant the appointment. For the present the chief care consists in laying off the course of reefs for contractors, the several works in this mine as far as practicable being performed under the contract system, as well as in laying out and furnishing details connected with the contemplated battery; the present appointment will render the cost of periodical surveys unnecessary.
