HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
WELLINGTON. Thursday. The House met at' 2.30. Mr Gibbs gave notice of several amendments in the Abolition Bill. Mr Stout gave notice to ask by what authority Mr Vogel entered into a contract with the New Zealand Shipping Company for the conveyance of immigrants, and whether the Government intended to ratify the same.
Ten days' leave of absence was granted to Taiaroa.
Mr Sheehan a^ked whether the Government would lay ou the table correspondence in reference to lioad Boards Acts in native districts. He was answered in the affirmative, and the Government also promised to lay on the table all correspondence relating to the Oyster Fisheries Act.
The following committee was appointed to. inquire into alleged breaches of the Disqualification Act s—Messrs5 —Messrs Atkinson G. B. Parker, Johnston, Sir George Grey, Stout, Curtis, and Eolleston.
The Oamaru Gas Works Bill was read a second time, and the Highway Boardi Empowering Act Amendment Bill, 1871, was passed. The House adjourned at 3 p.m.
