GREAT REPUBLIC (TAIRUA.)
This holding, consisting^ 13 acres, adjoins the Britannia lease^for some time past James Perry and party have been engaged prospecting the property, and have been able to obtain good prospects by dish washings and mortar tests from -' several parts of the ground. From a trench showing likely, stone, tho party have cleared a face, and put in a drive for 20 feet, and are now in a country consisting of ruby quartz with pipeclay, which on being tested in a mortar, returns a good payable show of gold. is thought that the present quartz is but the outcrop of a reef not far off.
