WELLINGTON. This day, 3.10 p.m. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Dunedin Waterworks Bill was read a first time.

Mr Wm, Kelly presented a petition from Tauranga against the law allowing Maorics to vote for Europeans and not allowing Europeans to vote for Maories. Sir George Grey gave notice to ask for a return giving the names of Europeans to whom compensation was paid for land out of the £700,000 set apart for purchasing Native lands.

Sir George Grey also presented a petition .from certain Natives of Hauraki, complaining of restrictions as to the sale of Native lands, and complaining that the Maories arc not allowed to serve upon juries. Mr Wood gave notice to move for a return of the estimated amount of land fund,received from each Provincial District from November, 1875 to June 1876.

Mr -Montgomery asked how much of the £127,520 for which credit had been taken in the estimate of ways and means under the head contributions from land fund had been absorbed ibr interest on railways. - " • Major Atkinson said the return would probably be prepared this afternoon. Mr Yon der Heyde asked why a Railway Wharf costing £25,000 should be built for Wellington out of the Colonial funds whilst the Auckland Harbor Board had to provide their own wharf, accomodation out of money raised under the Harbor Board Act.

Mr Eichardson said if the General Government had not found the funds directly for the Auckland Harbor Board they had at least found the endowments for that body. There was .no Harbor Board in Wellington.
