This day. A public meeting was hold last nigh.fcV the Mayor in the chair. A resolution wks proposed—;" That in the opinion of this' meeting the' Abolition of Provinces and Local Government Bill are calculated to produce better colonial and local administration, to . promote settlement, and to remove the discontent of outlying districts; and this constituency further earnestly hopes these.. measures, will be carried this session." Mr Field, engineer to the rpad boards, was for abolition, but could not approve of the measures He Avas cried down, and his "resolution was ruled out of order. The amendment was then put and carried by a large majority, only four hands being shown for' Field's resolution. The amendment having become the resolution was carried unanimously, a copy to be telegraphed to Mr Bryce, the member. The greatest unanimity prevailed.
